2019 Residential Property Tax Rates For 351 MA Communities

The median residential tax rate of the 351 communities with available information is $15.48 per $1,000 of assessed value, which is up 38 cents from last year. That’s according to a the latest data via the Department of Revenue’s Division of Local Services.
The town with the lowest residential tax rate can be found on Martha’s Vineyard, where Chilmark boasts a rate of $2.88. Other nearby communities made up the low end of the list, with Nantucket, Edgartown, and Aquinnah all joining Chilmark in the top 10
The people of Longmeadow have the highest residential tax rates at $24.09. The communities that made up the majority of the high end of the list are in Western Mass.
Boston’s residential tax rate is $10.54 and Cambridge is $5.94. Most surrounding suburbs were between about $9 and $13.
Tax bills reflect the tax rate being applied to the assessed value of the land and buildings on a given property. For example, for the owner of a property assessed at $250,000, a tax rate of $15.48 would result in a tax bill of $3,870.
