still going!

The roof! WOW! I am a bit sore..and a bit sunburnt but that’s OKAY! We took half the roof off yesterday to find that the structure and rafters are in fantastic shape. No sign of damage from either water or time. This is great news! It means that even though the roof should have been done last year, I am still ahead of the game and got it to before it became worse.

We stripped off the two layers of shingles and the cedar shakes. There is wide pine planking underneath that we left on and covered it with fresh 1/2 inche plywood. This roof is going to be very strong. After cleaning up for what felt like hours…we called it a day with that half fully sheathed.

Today…with four people on hand…we should be able to work on both sides of the roof at the same time. This will go much faster! I expect by noon the ice/water shield will be down and we can start to lay shingles! I am really looking forward to my pewterwood!

Off to find more coffee and get ready before the crew arrives!
